Rate Case

GVEA’s Rate Case

In 2025, Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA) is conducting a rate case, an essential process that ensures our rates continue to support delivery of reliable energy to the communities we serve. We’re committed to transparency and open communication about the decisions that affect our member-owners, so please read on for more information and participate where and when you can!

What Is a Rate Case?

A rate case is a formal process in which GVEA evaluates and proposes adjustments, either up or down, to the rates we charge for electricity. Rate cases also provide the opportunity to review how these fees are charged and who they are charged to, ensuring that no group of members unreasonably subsidizes the cost of another group. These adjustments are then submitted to the Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA) for review and approval. The RCA carefully examines the proposed changes to ensure they are fair and justified for the cooperative and its members. This process typically involves a comprehensive analysis of GVEA’s costs, assets, and debt to ensure GVEA has enough revenue to maintain financial stability and support the ongoing delivery of reliable electric service, while balancing member impacts.
